Welcome to the Hinckley Community Shed

The primary aim of the Hinckley Community Shed is to create an informal, social space where people come together to make, repair, and re-purpose items, fostering social connection whilst combating loneliness and isolation.

  • Offer a safe and welcoming space
  • Develop skills and purpose
  • Promote health and wellbeing
  • Foster community spirit
  • Provide a “lifeline”
  • Serve the wider community

Our Story so far....

In June 2025 the first meeting was held of the Hinckley Community Shed. Under the guidance of  local co-ordinators from the County Council and the Rural Community Council. A committee of Chair,Secretary and Treasurer was formed.Monthly meetings were then held in The Queens Head and gradually word spread such that attendance averaged around a dozen people. Ideas were discussed at these meets for what people wanted and how we go about making progress.  A Constitution was adopted in October 2025. A start up grant of £1500 was awarded by Hinckley Borough Council. The major hurdle was to find suitable premises for our ‘shed’, either a plot to stand a building on or a ready made facility. After much searching Green Towers were approached.

The Men’s Shed movement originated in Australia in the 1980’s. The idea was to set up non-profit organisations to provide welcoming spaces where men could meet, share their stories, engage in craft and DIY activities, which would hopefully benefit their mental health and well-being. The UK movement (UK Men in Sheds) was started in 2013 and has grown to over 1000 venues.
